The advantages of the invisible lingual brace , is  that more complicated  cases can be treeated this way,  where an  invisalign  brace may be contraindicated. One of the questions commonly asked is does it interfere with the tongue,  it usually takes 3 days for the tongue to get used to the brace. Advantages of Lingual Treatment with Incognito™
Appliance system fabricated to deliver individually defined treatment objectives     

To begin an Incognito therapy it is necessary to take a two-phase  impression. High quality impressions are extremely important to ensure a high quality appliance. The plaster models produced from this impression are used to prepare an individualized therapeutic setup that is created by cutting the teeth and setting them up in to the target position in wax.     

An articulator and a wax bite are used to simulate the correct jaw relationship.     

A high-resolution optical 3D scanner permits non-contact scanning of the therapeutic setup. The result of the scan is a 3D digital representation of the teeth consisting of many thousands of minute triangles that can be documented and processed in the computer

Creating Individualized Bracket Bases       

Specialized CAD/CAM software is used to design and build customized brackets. The fabrication process begins with the creation of individualized bases being customized to the lingual surfaces of the patient’s teeth. Because of the extreme accuracy of the scan, the bases mold precisely to the teeth. Large pad surfaces provide greater bond strength and make them easy to place on the teeth for bonding and re-bonding.   

Positioning the Bracket Bodies     

After the design of the bracket bases, the appropriate bracket bodies are selected from the digital archive and arranged by the software. The vertical height, angulations and torque are preset into each bracket. In this way the patient’s individual prescription is designed into the brackets.     

Each wing is adjusted to make the bracket profile as low as possible while allowing room for elastics to be attached to the bracket.       

                   The individualized brackets conform to the dental anatomy.

Bracket Manufacturing     

Wax patterns of the customized brackets are created using rapid prototyping machines. The patterns are then placed in an investment cast, burned out and a dental gold alloy is poured into the cast to create the brackets. After casting the brackets are tumbled and polished until they are smooth to ensure high patient comfort.

At the park dental clinic there are two types of whitening, in house surgery whitening, and home whitening kits.

The in house whitening treatment involves you being at the clinic for up to and hour and a half. In this time the dentist will apply and barrier cream to the gums to protect the gums while the treatment is carried out, the dentist then applies the whitening solution to the teeth and uses a special whitening lamp over the teeth to activate the solution. Once the first cycle has finished the dentist will then remove the solution from the teeth and the procedure is repeated until the desired shade is achieved.

 The home whitening treatment involve the patient coming into the clinic and having impressions of the teeth taken, the impressions are then sent to the laboratory to make personalized trays for the patient to use. The personalized trays then hold the whitening solution against the surface of the tooth. The home whitening treatment gradually lightens the shade of the tooth, and repeated over a course of time until it reached the desired shade.

The most common form of cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, originating in the cells that line the mouth and lips. Oral cancer most commonly involves the tissue of the lips or tongue.  It may also occur on the floor of the mouth, cheek lining, Gingiva or plate.

Signs and Symptoms of Oral Cancer

◙ A visible lump or mass that may or may not be painful

◙ Bleeding from either of the above

◙ An ulcer that will not heal

◙ A persistent blood blister

◙ Loss of sensation anywhere in the mouth

◙ Difficulty in swallowing

◙ Impaired in tongue mobility

◙ Difficulty in moving the jaw

◙ Speech changes, such as slurring or lack of clarity

Bearing this in mind, it is extremely important to visit the dentist regularly at least every six months for routine examinations. Part of the examination involves an oral cancer screen where the dentist will examine the soft tissue of the mouth (cheeks, lips and gums) as well as the hard tissue (teeth). Dentists are trained to identify and refer patients whom they feel are at risk or have any symptoms they feel need closer investigation.

Here at The Park we are committed to employing the best staff available.  All of our nurses hold the National Certificate in Dental Nursing or are a course to sit the exam shortly.  Once students have achieved their qualification they are registered with the General Dental Council. This means that they are covered by the same regulations that Dentist, Dental Therapists and Dental Hygienist are.  This means that they have to maintain their personal professional development by attending regular courses on all aspects of dentistry.  Currently two of our nurses have been on a training course in conscious sedation procedures as this is quickly becoming one of the most popular services on offer in the practice.

Previously Dental Nurses did not need to be qualified.  However, in recent years the profession has realised how important the role of the Dental Nurse is in the practice. Not only does the nurse assist the dentist in the surgery by getting all the equipment and materials ready they may use, they are generally the person a patient feels most comfortable talking to and asking any questions that they may feel uncomfortable talking to the dentist about.  Also, their knowledge of products used and the procedures carried out is essential to the smooth running of the surgery and practice in general.  They also need a good knowledge of First Aid and how to cope with any medical emergency.  All of our staff attend an annual resuscitation course where we are all updated on the latest procedures and new drugs to with most situations.

Cross infection control is another very important role for the dental nurse within the practices as it is she who is responsible for the cleanliness of the surgery and the sterilization of instruments and disposal of any contaminated materials. Every year all staff  attend a recognized cross infection control course where we   refreshed and advised on new policies.
